Cost of Living
The cost of living has become unbearable for many families and seniors, with food prices soaring, housing costs doubling, and everyday essentials becoming unaffordable. This crisis has been exacerbated by the Liberal carbon tax and inflationary policies, which have pushed far too many Canadians into economic hardship.

In Toronto, the situation has reached alarming levels. The city declared a “food insecurity emergency” after a report from the Daily Bread Food Bank revealed that more than one in ten Torontonians are relying on food banks. Shockingly, nearly one in four food bank clients are children under 18 years old.

From April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, Toronto saw 3.49 million visits to food banks. This represents an increase of one million over the previous year and a staggering 273% rise since before the pandemic.

The root of this crisis is clear: rising food prices, which have made it increasingly difficult for families to afford the basics. The Liberal government’s carbon tax has made everything more expensive, from the food grown by farmers to the groceries on store shelves. The carbon tax is driving up costs across the supply chain. The Liberals are taxing the farmers who grow the food, the truckers who transport it, and the consumers who buy it. As a result, this year, a typical family of four will have to pay an additional $700 for groceries compared to last year.

Despite the growing financial strain on Canadians, the Liberals’ solution is to make things even worse. On April 1, 2025, they plan to increase the carbon tax once again as part of a long-term plan to hike it to 61 cents per litre by 2030. This tax hike will further inflate food prices, pushing even more people to food banks as they struggle to afford basic necessities.

Instead of addressing the root cause of rising costs, the Liberals are focused on rebranding their ineffective policies. The so-called “rebates” offered to Canadians are a mere distraction. While the Liberals promote these rebates as a solution, the reality is that they do little to offset the skyrocketing prices at the grocery store. For many families and seniors, these rebates are not enough to make up for the higher costs of living that have become the norm under the Trudeau government.

You deserve a Member of Parliament who will fight to scrap the carbon tax entirely and will reduce the cost of living.
