Seniors

I believe that as our population ages, we must ensure that seniors have the support they need to live with dignity and independence. It’s essential that we create an environment where seniors can continue to enjoy a high quality of life, access affordable healthcare, and stay in their homes for as long as possible.

To make this vision a reality, I support our party’s vision of collaborating with provinces, to set clear standards for home, community, and long-term care, while also sharing best practices to help seniors live comfortably and with the respect they deserve.

Seniors should only pay Employment Insurance premiums if they’re eligible to receive benefits. I also support policies that ensure the combined income from GIS, OAS, and CPP is sufficient to allow seniors to live independently without relying on expensive institutional care. By helping seniors remain in their homes, we not only protect their independence but also reduce the financial burden on taxpayers.

I’m also passionate about supporting caregivers, who are often family members, with job protection and tax incentives to care for their elderly or disabled loved ones. It’s vital that we strengthen protections against elder abuse and ensure that those who commit these heinous acts face severe consequences.

Finally, I believe that the government must work closely with provincial partners to ensure seniors are receiving the benefits they’re entitled to. This includes reviewing the retroactivity policy of federal benefits to ensure fairness.

You deserve a Member of Parliament who understands that our seniors have given so much to this country. It is our responsibility to make sure they are treated with the respect, care, and support they deserve as they age.
